You have picked two of my favorite places to invest in the Riviera Maya. Both are great investment opportunities for different reasons, and being in close proximity to either place, you can’t go wrong with investing in Tulum or Playa del Carmen. This article will show you the advantages of investing in Playa del Carmen and the advantages of investing in Tulum.
Investing in Playa del Carmen:
A few years back, Playa del Carmen was the fastest growing city in Latin America and continues to be one of the fastest growing places in Mexico. With tourism growing at such an accelerated rate, what better place to invest in then Playa del Carmen? Playa del Carmen can give thanks to the government infrastructure subsidy, which has allowed Playa del Carmen to grow as consistently as it has been due to the increase in population.
People come from all over the world to live and vacation in Playa del Carmen, and they prefer to stay in a condo, house or hotel versus a big resort. More and more people want to experience the culture and rent an Airbnb or private accommodation while they are in Mexico, so this is where the demand gets put in place. When someone invests in Playa del Carmen for rental purposes, they can rent out their place on a nightly, weekly, monthly, or yearly basis. Since Playa del Carmen is a larger beach town than Tulum, the competition is slightly higher in Playa. When investing in PDC you are also closer to Cancun International Airport and large stores like Wal-Mart and other grocery stores. More dental clinics and doctors, as well as restaurants and other stores that you won’t find in Tulum.
Investing in Tulum:
If you want to invest in pre-construction, Tulum is a great place to do so. With Tulum being a relatively new place to travel too, it remains small in size. Playa del Carmen is much more developed, which is great for people who want the ‘bigcity feel.’ Tulum, on the other hand, is considered a hippy beach town because of the relaxing vibes and eco-friendly places. If you want a more laid back, relaxing environment to invest in and be located close to one of the best beaches in the world, as well as the Mayan Ruins-than this is the place for you.
Tulum still has incredible restaurants and medical services as well as fast transportation back and forth from Playa del Carmen to Cancun. Tulum is a great place if you love nature. You are surrounded by many cenotes, and less crowded beaches because it is a bit farther away from the international airport in Cancun. Regardless of your decision, each place has a beautiful white sandy beach, with turquoise water and the weather is generally the same year-round.
So, Where to Invest: Playa del Carmen or Tulum?
You are probably curious about prices in both places. In Playa del Carmen since there are more places to choose from, you can find a 3-bedroom place for $150,000-
300,000-depending on the area you want to be located in and the size of the home. In Tulum, real estate ranges from $200,000-$300,000+ which again depends on where you are located. Generally, you can get a better deal if you purchase during the pre-construction period. If you were looking to rent it out and make rental income as soon as possible, I would look for a resale property in either place. Take some time and visit each place before you make your decision. View properties in both Playa del Carmen and Tulum and choose the one you like best.
