Akumal
White sand beaches, turquoise water of the Caribbean, palm-trees, beautiful weather all year round, luxuriant and preserved nature, historical setting, amazing accommodation… Welcome to the beautiful and tranquil town of Akumal!
Located only 60 miles south of Cancun International Airport, right in the heart of the Riviera Maya, Akumal is probably one of the most beautiful place in Mexico and certainly a vacationer’s paradise. This tourist-friendly little town is about an hour south of Cancun—but it seems light-years away as it is so laid back and peaceful.
There’s nonetheless an abundance of activities such as fishing, sailing, birdwatching, horse back riding on the beach, which will please the most active ones.
Akumal is also renown for its underwater wonders as well as aquatic wildlife: caves, dolphins, turtles, whale sharks. Actually, Akumal means “Place of the Turtle” in the Mayan language, and if you snorkel here, you just might see one swimming alongside you. (Don’t touch it, though. That’s prohibited by law.) You’ll definitely see coral and beautiful fish in the clear, sparkling waters. You will find numerous tours and diving schools to enjoy those wonders.
Just a few minutes from Akumal, in any direction, you can enjoy the most exciting places in the Riviera Maya. For those wishing to discover the incredible heritage of the Mayan civilization, Tulum is only a short ride away. This archeological site of an ancient Mayan city is unique as it was built on a cliff along the Caribbean sea. You can also visit Chichén Itzá or Cobá, two other fascinating archeological sites. If it’s gastronomy you’re into you’ll be happy to learn that Mexican cuisine was the first cuisine to be classified as intangible cultural heritage by UNESCO!
After your holidays, you might want to invest in real estate,. If that’s the case, it shouldn’t be a problem. Clear blue skies, a white sand beach, the sea…color of paradise and in the background the incredible remains of an ancient Mayan city… It’s not a dream…You are in Tulum!
Tulum is located in the Yucatan Peninsula and is famous for its one of a kind ruins. In deed, it is the only one built by the sea side! Even if you are not a history buff, the ruins will take your breath away. Imagine having made all of these pyramids and structures without the use of any modern tools we have access to today?
There are other archeological sites worth visiting if you are in the Tulum area. Chichén Itzá, one of the Seven Wonders of the Modern World and Cobá (highest pyramid in the Yucatan Peninsula) are both unique sites as well.
But Tulum is more than that. Its white sand beaches, the clear turquoise Caribbean sea and the ever present sunshine offer the perfect combination of total relaxation, tranquility and seclusion, yet you can fill your day with the many interesting and rich activities in the area. It’s a place where you come on vacation to get away from it all, but also to go home with life long memories.
The eco-parks (4 of them!) will provide adrenaline, adventure, snorkeling paradises and a taste of the colorful Mexican culture to all visitors.
The Sian Ka’an biosphere is a World Heritage site. You can visit this natural wonder which contains tropical forests, mangroves, marshes, barrier reef and a slew of species ranging from dolphins, to birds, crocodiles, sea turtles, monkeys and tropical fish.
And don’t forget the Cenotes, a series of incredible caves!
You will find Tulum about 1 hour drive south of Playa del Carmen and only 25 minutes south of Akumal. Cancun International airport is only 60 miles away which is why Tulum is the perfect getaway destination. Tulum is slowly developing thus becoming a strategic place to invest in real-estate.
